Pember Nature Preserve

4/29/12
The Pember Nature Preserve
8 miles south of Granville, NY on Rt. 22

This was not our first visit to the Pember Nature Preserve and it may not be our last. The Preserve has two miles of trails over 125 acres of land and is home to many different species of birds, animals and plants. The trails run on both sides of the Black Creek, a tributary of the Battenkill.

We saw flowers such as Spring Beauty, Largetooth Wort, Trillium, Miterwort, Blue Sharp Lobed Hepatica, Jack-in-the-Pulpit and Wild Leeks. You can smell the Leeks as you walk the trails they are so plentiful.

Lately, we have also starting seeing (or noticing) some really cool trees and roots. Things like this interest me. I wish I could look inside. Wonder if something lives in there.

We saw several Blue Herons, turtles and what appeared to be a muskrat swimming away from us.
All in all it was a wonderful day. Take the time and go see the preserve!
